I've been an avid gamer since I can remember, delving deep into uncharted territories and experimenting new and unknown titles was something that used to excite me more than everything. In the last few years though, some of that spark seems to have dissipated just slightly, I always thought that the problem was the fact that I was just becoming a grumpy old man, complaining about how back in the day games were a lot more fun. A couple of weeks ago though, when I booted up Qbeh-1: The Atlas Cube for the first time, I was proven wrong, apparently the love for videogames still roams and flourishes within me and Qbeh-1 brought all those feelings once again back to the surface.

I'm not exactly sure which element of the game was the catalyst for such a positive reaction on my part, I believe it might have been a combination of three main elements, the inspired soundtrack by Launchable Socks, the beautiful visuals and last but not least, the fulfilling gameplay, it has just enough depth to please most players, the learning curve is also very adequate, introducing new features little by little without overwhelming the player.

Qbeh-1: The Atlas Cube, for those of you who don't know it, is a first person puzzle platformer developed by a small independent studio called Liquid Flower, they hail from Finland and apparently have difficulties spelling cube correctly, oh and they are also extremely talented at developing these things called videogames. Helping them out was Joost Kraaijenbrink (yes, I had to copy paste the name...) or Launchable Socks, according to him, he's a wizard and makes music, good enough for me! His work on Qbeh-1 comes very close to perfection, the way his simple, yet chilling tunes work in conjunction with the game's art style is something that even big development companies struggle to achieve in their titles.

At its core and from what I can gather so far, Qbeh-1 is a puzzle game first and a platformer second. You solve the puzzles by placing blocks and using them as platforms to reach previously inaccessible places, these blocks may also work as keys to open doors or move very specific platforms, in later levels the array of functions performed by the blocks expands. Basically different colored blocks do different things, with that idea in mind you can imagine and experiment all the solutions you want, most of the puzzles can be solved in a few different ways and that's something that really sets Qbeh-1 apart from other puzzle games.

Should you get it?
Yes!
If you enjoy a good puzzle game or just want to try out something a little bit different then by all means give this one a shot.
