Nordic Games resurrects the MX vs. ATV franchise with Supercross

THQ’s lost treasure, MX vs. ATV: Supercross, is out now, courtesy of none other than Nordic Games.

Available on PS3 and Xbox 360, MX vs. ATV: Supercross is the sixth game in the series and brings players the ultimate in dirt bike action, featuring a host of game modes, customization options and everyone’s favorite riders, old and new.

“MX vs. ATV: Supercross is the first in what we hope to be many more games of this former THQ brand, now brought under the Nordic Games umbrella,” says Reinhard Pollice, Business and Product Development Director at Nordic Games. “We’re thrilled to finally give fans what they’ve been waiting for and look forward to doing more of the same in the future.”

“Launching MX vs. ATV: Supercross is rewarding to the Rainbow team on several levels,” says Ken George, Executive Producer at Rainbow Studios. “It's exciting to bring the series back to our fans who want a fun, rewarding off-road racing experience. It also feels great for Rainbow Studios to have a new home at Nordic Games. Everyone there is truly great to work with and we're glad to be part of their family.”

The game features 17 different Supercross tracks for both MX and ATV riding, as well as a career mode with five different series. 80 motocross companies are featured and there will be 60 riders to race against, ensuring the ultimate in authenticity.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter coming to retail via Nordic Games

Nordic Games employed its own investigators to look into the case of Ethan Carter and to support Paul Prospero with his endeavours to unfold the truth about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. The developers – The Astronauts, founded in 2012 – consist of former owners and designers at People Can Fly, who previously worked on Painkiller, Come Midnight, Gears of War and Bulletstorm.

"The Vanishing of Ethan Carter immediately had the finger on our pulse," said Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games. "We’re excited to be involved with this one-of-a-kind horror/mystery game and the atmosphere it conveys on screenshots and trailers already. To collaborate with The Astronauts is the icing on the cake."

"With such an understanding and responsive partner it’s been really easy for us to make a decision to cooperate with Nordic Games on the box version of our game," said Adrian Chmielarz, co-founder of The Astronauts and lead designer of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. "Some gamers asked us for a physical copy, and I am happy that thanks to Nordic we can deliver."

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter will be available through retail stores and digitally in Q3 2014.

MX vs. ATV Series To Be Resurrected By Nordic Games

2014 promises to be a very happy New Year for fans of extreme racing, as Nordic Games has unveiled its plans to revive the best-selling MX vs. ATV series.

Nordic Games secured the rights to the MX vs. ATV series as part of its agreement to acquire a range of THQ’s intellectual property earlier this year. Now the firm can reveal it has assembled a team of former MX vs. ATV staff along with other, high-profile developers to properly resurrect the franchise. This dedicated team will be taking it to even greater heights while retaining the ingredients that made MX vs. ATV so successful. It's no coincidence the team is based in Phoenix Arizona where it all began in the mid-90s. Perhaps one can be forgiven for borrowing from the well-worn cliché: the Phoenix has truly risen from the (digital) ashes.

Led by Ken George and comprising of numerous MX vs. ATV staff along with game development veterans including Dave Dwire, Chris Gilbert, Mike Mamula, Brad Bowling, Scott Hofmann, Justin Walsh, and David Knudsen, the new team’s first title will be MX vs. ATV Supercross due for release in the first half of 2014 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, Mac and Linux. As the title suggests, MX vs. ATV Supercross is centered around the popular Supercross sport and has the scope of a downloadable game.

The team is also maintaining the existing MX vs. ATV Alive and MX vs. ATV Reflex code and bringing back as many features as possible including multiplayer on consoles, Motoclub Depot, and more to be announced soon.

"We're absolutely thrilled to be working with Nordic Games because they appreciate the team's passion and dedication to bring the feel of real motocross racing to MX vs. ATV fans. Not just the adrenaline rush, but the whole experience from top to bottom.", says Ken George, Executive Producer of MX vs. ATV Supercross. "A lot of the original team members have been aching to continue their passion: building the most authentic off-road racing games possible. The hiatus is over, and the team is back to work on MX vs. ATV with great new things to come."

“We’re all devoted fans of the MX vs. ATV games,” adds Reinhard Pollice, Business & Product Development Director at Nordic Games, “so being able to play a part in continuing this brilliant series is a dream come true. We’re absolutely committed to ensuring Ken and his team receive the best support and the freedom to create the games they love making – and we’re confident that the series will continue to grow from strength to strength. Supercross is just the start of our MX vs. ATV plans. 2014 and beyond will prove to be a hell of a ride.”

Double Fine to re-release Psychonauts, Costume Quest & Stacking

Double Fine Productions and Nordic Games GmbH have announced that Double Fine has reacquired the publishing and distribution rights to its games Costume Quest and Stacking. Additionally, Double Fine has decided to partner with Nordic Games to bring retail releases of Psychonauts, Costume Quest, and Stacking for Windows and Mac in North America and Europe during the first half of 2014.

"I am pleased that we have regained full control over Costume Quest and Stacking, following a daring and top-secret midnight raid on the Nordic Games headquarters in Vienna," said Double Fine president and CEO Tim Schafer.

"We can't wait to partner with Double Fine for this upcoming retail launch of three of its most excellent games," said Lars Wingefors, owner and CEO of Nordic Games. "However, I feel compelled to point out that we were happy to transfer distribution rights for Costume Quest and Stacking back to Double Fine in an entirely non-secretive and heist-free manner."

Nordic Games previously acquired the distribution rights to Stacking and Costume Quest upon the bankruptcy of former publisher THQ in early 2013.

"Double Fine is dedicated to controlling its own IP, and we will continue working to bring all associated rights back in-house whenever possible," said Double Fine business development VP Justin Bailey, "no matter how many split-second security system hacks or painstaking tunneling operations we have to execute."

"I just want to clarify, again, that we support the right of independent developers to control their own distribution, and we were pleased to have the opportunity to work with Double Fine," said Klemens Kreuzer, Managing Director at Nordic Games. "No heists."

Psychonauts was originally released at retail in 2005, but for years has been available only through digital distribution. The upcoming retail launch will mark the first time Costume Quest and Stacking have been available as physical releases.

New Jungle Trailer Announces the Arrival of Deadfall Adventures for PC

Nordic Games’ Deadfall Adventures is out today and cranks up the meaning of the term ‘adventurer’ to a whole new level in this action-driven, death-defying epic voyage. Available now for digital download on PC, Retail versions for Windows PC and Xbox 360 will be available in North America, November 29, 2013.

Nordic Games has also released the final of three location gameplay trailers, this time set in the jungles of Guatemala.

Delving into the depths of the Mayan jungle, the trailer reveals the exotic yet hazardous surroundings that the charismatic protagonist James Lee Quatermain has to fight his way through. Players trawling through the ruins of the temples will come across dark supernatural life forms, while being exposed to challenging ancient puzzles in order to locate the Heart of Atlantis.

“The variety of locations, coupled with elements of exploration, action and adventure succinctly conveys the game’s ‘more than its sum-of-parts’ delivery,” said Nik Blower, PR, Marketing & Franchise Director at Nordic Games. “Our three-part videos take people on a taster journey through the stunning locations and deliver the game’s message very well indeed.”

“Directing the vision on our first FPS in the action-adventure genre has been very challenging and rewarding,” said Wojciech Pazdur, Director of Development, The Farm 51. “We felt this first person aspect of the game would give players the chance to explore in the eyes of Quatermain and the challenges he faces, rather than the typical slightly detached third-person view.”

Developed using Unreal Engine 3, Deadfall Adventures is full of spectacular jaw-dropping moments, set in picturesque locations including Egypt, Arctic and forgotten Mayan ruins in the jungles of Guatemala. Along the way, players will encounter fiendish puzzles, deadly traps and stunning set pieces.
